Penang Place Char Kway Teow

Penang Place is more known for its buffet but they do have an ala-carte menu with their best Penang dishes available. If you are looking for the best Penang Char Kway Teow in Singapore, this is one that you definitely do not want to miss.

I have ate at Penang Place a couple of times for their buffet and the Char Kway Teow on the buffet line always disappears in double quick time. So I was back today, and I decided to just go for ala-carte.  A plate of Char Kway Teow for $9.90. That's definitely not cheap, but you get an awesome-tasting Char Kway Teow, with great wok-hei that is hard to replicate. Not forgetting the fresh and large prawns that adorn it. For the price, I thought they could have been a little more generous with the prawns. Three prawns is just too little. They could cut back on the cheaper ingredients like the fish cake too - it doesn't add much to the taste.

Another place selling Penang Char Kway Teow is the Malaysia Food Street at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). I just tried the same dish on Sunday - and well, it's half the price at S$5, but its half the taste too.

It's a popular taste too, with often long queues but the dish here wasn't as flavourful. The Kway Teow was also fried a little too soft and sofft and didn't have a good texture. They used the skinner rice noodles btw, more akin to the Thailand Pad Thai.

If you haven't heard of Penang Place, they offer a pretty decent buffet, with many of the best Malaysia and Local dishes available. Although local dishes aren't exactly the most worthwhile when it comes to buffet time, due to the many heavy staples used.
