A Visit to the Myanmar Embassy Singapore

Travels to Myanmar is fast increasingly become more popular. However, any trips there first require Singaporeans a trip to the Myanmar Embassy or properly known as Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Singapore, at 15 St Martin's Dr, Singapore 257996.

All visitors to Myanmar need to apply for a visa, be it a tourist visa or business visa, and it would cost SGD$35 for the visa and SGD$10 for the administration charges, which somehow is not clearly indicated on the website. I thought it would be so much better if they had lumped it all under a single charge of SGD$45 instead. There's really no need to confuse people further. Do take note, only cash is accepted - no nets, credit card payments etc.

The tourist visa applicants have to first register and make a booking schedule online through the Online Reservation for Myanmar Visa Application. You will be provided a queue number which for now, doesn't really seem to matter much. I will cover more on the actual day scenario later.

In addition, you would need to duly fill and sign the application form
and provide a business card, a copy of the passport, NRIC and two colour photos. Tourist visas are valid for (3) months. The application form would be emailed to you once you have done the online reservation, so do that quickly. Period of stay in Myanmar is 28 Days from date of arrival.

Queuing at Myanmar Visa Application

For myself, I was allocated a number at 600+ and they did not indicate a specific time to go down. Upon arrival at 820, the counters were already open but there were no clear signage at the Myanmar Embassy. The number process queues were showing 500+ instead and I wasn't sure if that meant I had to wait until my turn. Nonetheless, I proceeded to queue up at the counter (it was relatively short at early in the morning) and they were able to process my turn as well. As of 02 April 2014, if you have a queue number, just head down to the processing and ignore the number showing up on screen.

Also, collection of the visa can be done on the same day, at 4-5pm. Just head there a bit later as the counters tend to open from 430pm onwards. In addition, if you are not free on the same day, you can always inform the counter that you would collect the day after instead.

That's it. Pretty simple and quick.
